A quick, no nonsence guide to Lighting for Underwater Videography & Photography: How to select the best Underwater Photo or Video Light.
How to choose Underwater Video Lights or Underwater Photography Lights
What are the best Underwater Video Lights & Underwater Camera Strobes?
- Firstly look at the power, which is suppressed in GN (guide number). A good underwater strobe will show a GN of 30 or more.
- Secondly, look at the battery capacity. Because you want to do 2 dives with unlimited use of the strobes, you want to have about 200 lash at full power, with 300 being really good
- Thirdly, look at the angle of coverage. You want a large angle of coverage for wide angle shooting. 110 degrees without diffuser is very good.
- Next, the recycle time for the strobe is important, with 1 second being very good and 3 seconds being bad.
- Subsequently, the size of the kit – size matters. You want a relatively compact set up, especially if you have a small camera.
- In addition, the weight is important, especially in these times of airline weight restrictions. In the hope that it helps you, i have put a list of Underwater Photo & Video equipment that i recommend down below.
